John Carter (1927-2004), often known by his signature JRAC, was born in London's East End.   A fine painter of London scenes, landscapes, still lifes and figure paintings.

He moved to live in Spain in his later life and devoted more time to painting the male figure, always working directly from live models. For many years he was at the centre of the Toynbee Art Group in London and has exhibited alongside such international names as David Shepherd and Henry Moore.
